The Tenth anniversary of 9/11



This Sunday September 11th, the nation will honor the people lost in the 9/11 attacks. This day will mark the 10th anniversary of those attacks and Tucson is also doing it's part to honor all of the fallen.

Many events will be taking place in and around Tucson on September 11th. Here are a few that are open to the public if you would like to participate in an event this Sunday.

At 8 am mayor Bob Walkup will be present to commemorative laying of the wreath. This will take place at Fire Station One at 265 s Church st. This begins at 8am. At 9am after the ceremony will be the Fire Truck Procession to Randolph Park. This starts at Fire Station One and ends at the Reid Park Bandshell. The route is down Broadway to Alvernon to 22nd st to Country Club to the Bandshell. At 9:30 am Mayor Walkup and Dr. Richard Carmona, M.D., M.P.H. faculty, as well as John Green, Christina Green's father, will be speaking at the 9/11 memorial held by Tucson Firefighters Association and the Tucson Police offers Association. This will be held at the Bandshell.

Another event going on is the Memorial Tower Challenge. The Tucson police department SWAT team is hosting this difficult event. It will be held at 5151 E Broadway blvd and starts at 11am. All proceeds and donations collected will benefit The Wounded Warrior Project to help those injured while serving in the armed forces. Runners will climb the 17 floors 7 times which is the equivalent to the 110 stories that the firefighters on 9/11 climbed to help people to safety.

Habitat for Humanity will be building Ten homes for ten families in Tucson this Sunday starting at 6am. They will be helped by 400 volunteers to get the houses built in a day. This will be happening all over Tucson in Ten different locations.

Mayor Walkup and Dr. Richard Carmona, M.D., M.P.H., FACS will b speaking at the 9/11 Memorial held by the Tucson Firefighters Association and the Tucson Police Offers Association.
